Scope of the Study

Tampa School Transportation Safety Study outlines strategies for a school safety study focused on advancing physical transportation system improvements around schools and developing a framework for encouraging walking, biking, and busing. This work builds on the previous Transportation Planning Organization’s (TPO) School Transportation Safety Study (2018). It will establish a library of Safe Routes to School (SRTS) resources that can support individual school programs in the future. Our initial project approach includes the following tasks:

  • Update School Prioritization List (all 274 schools)
  • Identify Stakeholder Group
  • Assess Existing Safe Routes to School Programs at Area Schools
  • Survey District Families
  • Survey Principals
  • Identification of physical transportation system improvements around and connecting to a set of schools
  • Development of school-specific education and encouragement strategies and a template/process that can be used for other schools in the district (Library of Educational and Encouragement Resources)
