Potential Best Practices for Environmentally Friendly Noise Walls Study
A byproduct of increasing urban populations and highway driving, traffic related noise creates a burden on communities that border major roadways. Community members in these neighborhoods are also affected by vehicle emissions and other traffic-related pollutants. To reduce noise levels, noise walls are typically recognized as the most effective method by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).
As a result of its Health in All Policies initiative, the MPO sponsored the Potential Best Practices for Environmentally Friendly Noise Walls study to describe best practices for the design of environmentally friendly noise walls. It identifies best practices for the design of noise walls that have been most successful in achieving broad environmental goals.
