Plan for better walking and biking in Plant City

August 2017 – With a vision of a creating a more friendly walking and biking environment, the City of Plant City asked the MPO for assistance developing a Walk | Bike Plant City plan. Drafted over the last six months, the Plant City Walk-Bike Master Plan synthesizes previous planning efforts, identifies opportunities to fill gaps in the walk – bike network, and sets priorities for some quick-win projects. Plant City residents contributed great ideas incorporated into the plan, including connecting important destinations such as Hillsborough Community College, the YMCA, parks, and churches.

Importantly, the plan identifies crash hot spots and provides opportunities to improve safety. It also recommends an initial bicycle and pedestrian network, beginning with a north-south and an east-west spine. The plan also identifies catalyst projects including a multi-use trail along an existing canal north of downtown linking to the spine network. Initial improvements in the sidewalk network will be prioritized around schools and other major destinations.
