Industrial Lands Study

Project Overview

Since 2012, Hillsborough County has lost nearly 1 in 5 acres of industrial lands. In response, the Planning Commission has been looking at various ways to protect this strategic resource. Staff has conducted an analysis of industrial lands and policy approaches from other communities focusing on industrial preservation.

Scope of the Study

  • The report analyzes historic and recent plan amendment data and provides pertinent policy direction at the local level.
  • The study examines policy language found in local Comprehensive Plans and those from other areas of Florida. It is intended to serve as a reference and can be utilized in appropriate instances relating to industrial land uses.

Future Steps

  • Present report to the Planning Commission – Summer 2020.
