USF to Green ARTery Trail Study recommendations released

Mother and child wearing bicycle helmets and smilingDecember 2021 – The Hillsborough TPO has released recommendations from the USF to Green ARTery Trail Study, a project that evaluated connections from the University Area to the existing and proposed trail system in Tampa and Hillsborough County.

The study kicked off in March 2021, exploring the feasibility of a trail connecting the University of South Florida (USF) and James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital with the planned Green ARTery Perimeter Trail and other neighborhoods south of Fowler Ave. The study team coordinated with area property owners and agency partners to evaluate potential connections along 12th St., 22nd St., and Bruce B. Downs Blvd. The study also included proposed safe crossing locations on Fowler Ave. and other roadways.

With the redevelopment of the University Mall (RITHM), expansion of Veterans Hospital, and continuing growth around the University of South Florida, safe nonmotorized spaces are an increasing priority.
