The Rewind: April TPO Board meeting recap

April 2023 – Important decisions were made at the April 2023 TPO Board meeting that resulted in the approval of road safety improvement projects focused on some of the most dangerous intersections in both the City of Tampa and in unincorporated Hillsborough County. The planned improvements are best-practice treatments for reducing serious injury crashes. The unanimous approval of the TIP Amendments for the $1.5 million safety improvements to the West Boy Scout Boulevard and Manhattan Avenue intersection and the $3.5 million for safety improvements along US Highway 301 at Harney Road, Stacy Road, and McIntosh Road represent significant steps towards addressing safety concerns and improving traffic flow. The TPO also approved targets for FDOT-owned roads for pavement and bridge conditions and travel time reliability as set by state standards. Updates were given on the status of the:

  1. 2050 Long Range Transportation Plan’s initial steps and possible funding sources
  2. Transportation Disadvantaged program
  3. Role of the TPO Policy Committee and their upcoming agenda topics
