Planning Commissioners take cross-county tour

HART bus tourOn July 25th, Planning Commissioners met at County Center to begin a cross-county trip highlighting many new and existing initiatives taking place throughout the county today.

For the first leg of the tour, staff and commissioners took HART’s new MetroRapid route from the Jackson Street station to the University Area Transit Center. HART’s Public Information Officer Sandra Morrison was on hand to give insights on this new service.

Downtown Temple TerraceOnce arriving at the University Area Transit Center, staff and commissioners hopped on a chartered bus. Next stop was Downtown Temple Terrace, for a conversation about development challenges and opportunities with Temple Terrace’s Director of Community Development, Charles Stephenson.

Plant City rail stationNext was Plant City, with a quick lunch stop at the original Fred’s Southern Kitchen. Commissioners experienced the Plant City Train Viewing Platform, achieved through community donations. The bus tour continued with a look at revitalization and upcoming development in and around Plant City.

FishHawk RanchFishHawk Ranch and parts of South County were next on the tour. The Planning Commissioners got to see first hand the FishHawk the new housing products being built in the FishHawk community and learned about ongoing development in South County, including the new St. Joseph’s Hospital South and Amazon Distribution Center.

Water Works ParkTo finish the tour, Commissioners were taken through new developments in West Tampa and Tampa Heights, and finished the tour with a preview of Tampa’s newest gem, Water Works Park (WFLA’s Eagle 8’s Paul Lamison photo).
