New Year brings new River Board members and officers

new River Board members Stacy White, Rich Brown and Meredith AbelFebruary 2021 – At the January 25 River Board Meeting, we welcomed new Temple Terrace representative Councilmember Meredith Abel. Ms. Abel was elected to the Temple Terrace City Council November 3, 2020 for a four-year term. She taught high school level science and language arts for 11 years, currently teaches karate and self-defense to local children, and has served on committees to organize and manage internationally-attended martial arts events. She also volunteers weekly for Meals on Wheels. A USF graduate, Ms. Abel received her BA in English and American Literature in 2007 and holds an AS degree from Hillsborough Community College in Environmental Science Technology. Born and raised in Central Florida, she has lived in Temple Terrace since 2009 and has a daughter who attends a local public school. We welcome Councilmember Abel and thank outgoing Temple Terrace City Council Member James Chambers for his work with the River Board and wish him well in his other pursuits.

The River Board also elected Hillsborough County Commissioner Stacy White as Chair and Tampa City Councilmember Joe Citro as Vice Chair. River Board officers serve two-year terms.

The River Board’s Technical Advisory Council (TAC) also held their annual election of officers. Chair incumbent Dr. Rich Brown was elected to another year as Chair. Temple Terrace Citizen Representative Stu Marvin was elected Vice Chair. The River Board is honored to have such dedicated members and officers and looks forward to another year of making the river a great place for people and wildlife.
