September 2022 – The Planning Commission’s Special Area Planning Team is preparing to kick off two projects within unincorporated Hillsborough County and the City of Tampa in the month of September: The Greater Palm River Area Community Plan Update and the Fowler Avenue Vision Study. Both projects will provide recurring opportunities for the public to be involved over the coming year. Public involvement is important in the planning process. Greater Palm River Area Community Plan Update
- The Board of County Commissioners has directed Planning Commission staff, in partnership with the Community and Infrastructure Planning staff of Hillsborough County, to update the Greater Palm River Area Community Plan. A community plan is a strategic plan organized around a shared vision and goals for a community’s future. The Great Palm River Community Plan was created in 2008 and the plan update is anticipated to take place over the next 24 months.
- The Fowler Avenue Vision Study encompasses lands in both unincorporated Hillsborough County and the City of Tampa and will evaluate the land use, transportation, and community characteristics of the corridor. This analysis will be used to create a comprehensive vision plan that outlines the broad and aspirational description of the future that the community sees for Fowler Avenue. This vision will be derived from community feedback and expressed through a vision statement, plan goals, and maps. Fowler Avenue has been the subject of several other studies that will inform the vision process as well. Ultimately, this study will produce a unified vision for Fowler and comprehensive plan policies that aim to achieve it.
