traffic on a highway with factory smokestacks in the backgroundSeptember 2020 – Beth Alden, AICP, MPO Executive Director, participated in the Houston AQ webinar on Health & Highways: Impacts of Transportation Infrastructure on Communities hosted by Air Alliance Houston, LINK Houston, and Rice University’s Kinder Institute for Urban Research. The panelists consisted of local and national experts who discussed how transportation infrastructure projects, like Houston’s I-45 expansion, impact the health and quality of life of surrounding communities. The group focused on air pollution, traffic congestion, safety, resilience, displacement, and discussed strategies that can be put in place to mitigate harmful effects.
