Garden Steps to host Earth Day celebration at Healthy 22nd Street

healthy 22nd street gardenApril 2021 – On Saturday, April 24, the Coalition of Community Gardens will host an Earth Day celebration from 11 am to 2 pm at the Healthy 22nd Street Demonstration Garden. The garden is located at 22nd Street between Chelsea St. and Osborne Ave in Tampa. This free, outdoor community event will feature representatives from various organizations and local business owners who will provide information on gardening, community gardening, health, and environmental practices. Vendors will include University of Florida, Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences Extension, Coalition of Community Gardens, Tampa Family Health Centers, and Hillsborough Soil and Water Conservation. The Green ARTery Partnership will also provide healthy walking and biking information.

The Hillsborough MPO continues to partner with the Coalition of Community Gardens through the Garden Steps Project which seeks to create community gardens with easy pedestrian and bicycle access in identified food deserts in the city of Tampa. The goal is to improve health equity and population health by increasing easy access to fresh fruits and vegetables.
