FDOT eyes safety improvements on Boy Scout and US 301

crosswalk button that says push button for walkMarch 2023 – The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has submitted a request to amend the TPO’s Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) to add funds for projects to make intersections on Boy Scout Boulevard and US 301 safer.

If approved, the amendments would install new traffic signals, lighting, signage, and road striping.

Improvements to Boy Scout Boulevard would include a traffic signal, crosswalks and new street lighting at the Manhattan Avenue intersection. The traffic signal would give priority access to emergency vehicles entering and exiting Tampa Fire Station 8. The crosswalks, new lighting and road restriping would enhance bicycle and pedestrian safety. Crosswalks would be added to all four sides of the intersection.

The intersections at US Hwy 301 and Harney, Stacy and McIntosh Roads would also get new traffic signals, lighting and pedestrian crossings. The pedestrian crossing at Stacy and Mcintosh Roads. would allow safer access to the Old Fort King Trail.

The TPO will consider the amendments when it meets on April 12, 2023, at 10 a.m. The public can comment on the amendment through April 11 via email to tpo@plancom.org; mail to Hillsborough TPO, Attn: Cheryl Wilkening, 601 E. Kennedy Blvd., 18th Floor, Tampa 33602; voicemail one week in advance of the meeting to 813-272-5940 (press 9); or social media by posting on the TPO Facebook page.
