BOCC to consider extending moratorium on south county studies at upcoming public hearings

traffic driving through new developmentFebruary 2021 – During the February 4, 2021 public hearing the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) continued the comprehensive plan text amendments (HC/CPA 20-11, HC/CPA 20-12 & HC/CPA 20-13) pertaining to the land use studies affecting property in and around Balm and Wimauma. The BOCC also set two public hearings to consider the extension of the moratorium currently set to expire on May 29 to December 31, 2021. After extensive public comment, the BOCC expressed this additional time will allow Planning Commission staff the opportunity to continue working with the affected community and expand the public engagement process given the challenges conducting outreach during the pandemic.

The moratorium currently prohibits new rezonings in the Wimauma Village Residential-2 (WVR-2) and Residential Planned-2 (RP-2) land use categories in the Wimauma and Balm Community Planning Areas. The public hearings will occur on Wednesday, March 3 and Wednesday, April 7 at 9 am both days.
