About the Update
The Hillsborough County City-County Planning Commission is overseeing a multi-phased, multi-year project that will ultimately lead to in-depth revisions to the County’s Comprehensive Plan and updating it to the 2045 horizon. This process will address the changing needs of the County, with a resulting format that is user-friendly, not only for implementing departments but for the public at large. Serving as Unincorporated Hillsborough County’s Comprehensive Plan, Creating Great Places will provide the long-term vision for the County’s future. This Plan is created through a joint effort of County departments and a public outreach process which will incorporate in-depth revisions to the existing Comprehensive Plan that will support the County’s changing needs and ultimately support the future envisioned by the community.
What is a Comprehensive Plan?
A Comprehensive Plan establishes a community’s policies and priorities regarding future development while aiming to preserve the area’s environmental features and community character. The purpose of a Comprehensive Plan is to outline a long-term community vision for the future. A Comprehensive Plan acts as the guide by which a community’s development and preservation decisions are made, covering a wide range of topics, such as: land use, mobility, and public services, all intended to improve the quality of life for the community.
